Summary - Engineering the PPP Passenger Train for RailCorp ‘Safe, Clean & Reliable’

Presenter: Mark Baxter

On December 11 2006 the Reliance Rail consortium, with its core contractor Downer EDI Rail (DEDIR) was awarded the PPP contract from Rail Corporation New South Wales (RailCorp), entailing the design, construction and through-life support of 78 eight-car Sets for the Sydney metropolitan passenger network. A key technical commitment by Downer EDI Rail to the project is to deliver an integrated systems engineering based design approach, notably the effort to integrate safety, reliability and human factors engineering within the overall program. This paper reviews key engineering aspects of this commitment with a review of its application to the development of the Crew Cab Design.
