Summary - Development of the Cv43ACI Locomotive

United Group Rail along with its Technology partner GE Transportation has developed a new 4500 Hp AC Locomotive designed to operate both heavy haul applications (including coal haulage within the Hunter Valley of New South Wales) and high speed freight operations across the Defined Interstate Rail Network. A core criteria in the development of the Locomotive was to provide a base product that would satisfy operator’s requirements and be adaptable to accommodate customer specific requirements and equipment. To meet its motive power requirements for both its Intermodal and Coal Divisions, Pacific National placed an initial order for 15 locomotives in August 2007.
