Summary - Evaluation of Intermodal Terminal Sites Using AUSLINK Guidelines

Presenter: Anya Richards

Intermodal terminal development has been at the forefront of private and public sector consideration, largely because of the strategic importance of these links in making improvements in the transport chain. The aim of this paper is to provide a process that can be utilised in the Australian context for appraisal of intermodal terminal developments. This paper outlines the role of intermodal terminals in the transport system; discusses a method that proponents can use to appraise terminal opportunities in a manner consistent with other transport links; provides a real life case study of this appraisal technique; and concludes with a consideration of the applicability of this appraisal technique in the light of broader changes to the transport policy environment following the change of the Federal Government in Australia.
